The question is why, when most if not all Open Source Software is based on long standing standards even Firefox that is constantly gaining ground on Internet Explorer is standards based so it can work universally and globally which makes sense. Since not all PC’s are running Windows anymore, as the FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) gains momentum and progresses beyond that because they keep with the times and figure that whatever is burnt or saved on whichever computer can be read by any other computer without requiring some specific operating system or version of the software. Also why Open Source Software is the type that can run on just about any system without to many problems.
While with any and all proprietary software programs they are limited in the sense they can only be used on specific systems with specific hardware, which depending on what you are doing is not always a bad thing. Though for something that you want to be able to work on over multiple platforms, most if not all Open Source Software has some variation that does the same, if not more then programs that often cost nearly twice that. Yet still people use these programs, why you might ask … perhaps it is simply a lack of awareness of alternatives, or they just simply don’t care and figure that even Microsoft would have things standards based, what a misnomer.
Instead to many of these CD-R’s people figured they were using to do a favor of another friend, requires that the same friend go out and buy software for a couple hundred dollars to just read disks that probably cost maybe 20 dollars for ten of them. It is the lack of awareness, the ubiquity of Microsoft promotes a lack of a awareness, instead it speaks to point and click, don’t think. Keep the blinders on we so strategically put over your eyes, and just be like any other person that just uses windows because it is windows. and the fact it came with the PC they bought, or financed. Since Microsoft touts the simplicity of point and click without making any mention the necessity of command line or updates, instead they just expect people to blindly follow suit and just use the mouse to use whatever Microsoft offers. Why to many of those preloaded computers are lower prices because for the lower price you end up with a lot of crap that you will not so likely actually use for anything. Even beyond that, most of those programs are a bigger security risk then anything else. Of course they are also hand picked choices, for Microsoft to increase the bottom line.
What can be done, to help curb this frustration that is not new to Windows, how can a person who made the quality decision to go with something besides Microsoft be able to use files that are otherwise useless? One solution which has been done before is those individuals who play a role in the development of Linux, build a program that is able to convert these files to something that is universally accessible. The second option, that I think is an even better option is to take your views and understandings of the Open Source World to the selectively ignorant masses, to help them understand that there are other approaches to truly being able to share photos and the like, and to speak to how simple it truly is to take the steps to open their mind to get them out of the programmed reality that Microsoft has tried to make mainstream. A world where there is only Microsoft products and masses of followers speaking to how Windows is the only way. When in actuality it is it’s own programmed reality.
The fact that there are other options there are alternatives, to help open the mind to escape the Matrix of windows. Blue or red Pill you could say, two possible solutions to one serious problem, similar to how to many tend to follow blindly not thinking for themselves but instead letting some else make the decisions for them. For that matter giving Microsoft a chance to wipe the mind with ideas of a limited verse. There needs to be more awareness of alternatives and that is part of why this entry is going in today.
There needs to be a point where more people begin to understand that it is their lives and not a life that should be controlled by corporations. Or one that tries to limit vision so one company can do better then the others. Using Proprietary extensions is one way that Microsoft is trying to do exactly that. The one real way to break that is to inform others of alternatives and/or how to burn a disk in a format that is based on standards and will work with anything instead of just one specific Operating System. It all comes down to education or the lack of. As without any awareness you will just gladly keep the blinders on. To not see the full spectrum of color but instead only see the black and the white.
